Most people in the manufacturing industry are probably already familiar with surface mount technology (SMT) for surface mount machining. It is one of the new devices and technologies that can quickly attach PCB boards and components together, providing more intelligent and convenient production skills for the manufacturing industry. The PCB board and components are inseparable and can be imagined as a human body, and components are its body parts. Only by installing the components in the fixed position of the PCB board can a complete PCBA board be formed for electronic products. However, the components we usually install may sometimes experience oxidation. So, how should SMT surface mount processing plants avoid this situation from happening?
1. Storage environment for electronic components
The storage environment should be sufficiently dry. Moisture is one of the main causes of component oxidation, so SMT factories need to pay attention to controlling the humidity in the work area and try to maintain it within a suitable range of 30% to 50%. If the humidity exceeds this range, humidity control equipment can be considered for adjustment.
2. Regular inspections
Regularly inspect and replace containers for storing components. If the container is damaged or leaking, it is susceptible to external moisture, which can exacerbate component oxidation. At the same time, purchase qualified containers to ensure they can effectively isolate moisture and air.
3. Strengthen protective measures
Strengthening moisture-proof measures for electronic components is also necessary. In the SMT chip placement process, using desiccants and sealing bags to package components can effectively prevent moisture from coming into contact with the surface of the components and reduce the risk of oxidation. Meanwhile, during transportation and storage, it is important to ensure that the packaging bags of the components are not damaged to prevent moisture from seeping in.
4. Equipment maintenance
SMT processing plants should also conduct regular equipment maintenance and repair work. Due to prolonged use or aging of the equipment, there may be air leakage or instability, leading to moisture entering the environment for SMT processing. Regular maintenance of equipment, timely replacement of damaged parts, and ensuring the normal operation of the equipment can effectively reduce the risk of component oxidation.
In the long run, SMT surface mount processing plants should take as many measures as possible to prevent component oxidation, which is not only to ensure product quality but also a responsible attitude towards customers.
